The "#ForTheLoveOfSport: Orlando Fitness Center" blog post brings alive some of the most beautiful athletic arts being taught at this location. I had the pleasure of experiencing first hand, some of these wonderful anatomical sports at OFC, and was inspired to share my experience. Some of the classes being taught at this facility are Capoeira, Taekwondo, and Yoga. I will be discussing the Capoeira and Yoga experience in this blog post.

According to Dictionary.com Capoeira is a system of physical discipline and movement originating among Brazilian slaves, treated as a martial art and dance form. Instructor Roberto's explanation hit the nail on the head, when he explained it to his class during his demo. Roberto went into further detail saying that this "martial art-dance form" was used among Brazilian slaves in an effort to keep their morale up, and that they would spar in pairs (sometimes even in larger units, or solo) to the rhythm of their native instruments. These instruments include the likes of: Berimbau, Pandeiro, Agogo, Atabaque, Reco-Reco. Today Capoeira is "played", not fought like your typical martial arts, with a smile, to signify that one is not afraid of the dangers ahead. Practicing Capoeira will improve the body's, physical strength, power, and flexibility- all while teaching the mind discipline, creativity, courage, and self-confidence.
Below is a brief slideshow of the Capoeira hosted by Instructor Roberto.
Capoeira is a beautiful Brazilian tradition that is truly a creative way to work out your body. Head to the Orlando Fitness Center site to view class schedules, and when you attend a class tell them Aldemar sent you!
