There's always debate as to who should be on this list. Yet more recently, the players in the top 5 have been pretty consistent throughout most debates. It's in the rankings however, where the arguments start.
Here are the top 10 best active players in the NBA right now. I'll rank 10-6 in a brief list, then go into detail with 5-1. Comment below with your opinions! And as always like and share this post!
If you're wondering why there's a GOAT as the headline image for this post, it's because GOAT in sports is an acronym that stands for Greatest Of All Time. But the kids have transformed it to have a second meaning of who's the best at the moment. For now we are discussing the ACTIVE GOATs - and not of all time.
Honorable Mentions: Demarcus Cousins (SAC), Karl-Anthony Towns (MIN), Blake Griffin (LAC)
10. G Damian Lillard, Portland Trailblazers
9. F Paul George, Indiana Pacers
8. G Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers
7. F/C Anthony Davis, New Orleans Pelicans
6. G James Harden, Houston Rockets
5. F Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs
There shouldn't be any doubt for Kawhi, as he has blossomed into a top 5 player in the league. The Reigning two time Defensive Player of the Year is the only legitimate Lebron inhibitor. Known more for his defense, there's no denying his offense. Leonard is averaging 25.6 points 5.1 rebounds 2.5 assists with an efficient 45.8% shooting in 10 games this season. #Efficient
4. G Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder
The wrath of Westbrook has been unleashed this season as we've seen him go for 3 triple doubles in 10 games and averaging close to one so far this season. Westbrook currently averages 31.9 points 10.1 assists 9.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals. Westbrook has drawn comparisons to some legends, but if he keeps his averages up and can move to the Triple double range, he'll be the only player since Oscar Robertson (1962), to average a triple double.
3. F Kevin Durant, Golden State Warriors
KD is a part of the list of players that can do it all on the court - An offensive juggernaut and with a canning defensive prowess. Aside from the two losses the Warriors have, KD has been able to mesh well with the team and is currently averaging 27.7 points 7.9 rebounds 3.9 assists 1.7 steals and 1.4 blocks per game through 10 games.
2. G Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
Some would say Curry should be ranked lower on this list. However he's the reigning back-to-back MVP and has consistently put up numbers to lead to his team's success. Already breaking his first record of the season, curry is averaging a scorching 4.8 3's per game at 47.5% shooting. At only 28 years old, there should still be some room for improvement.
1. F Lebron James, Cleveland Cavaliers
Among many of the accolades the great LeBron James has achieved, he added one more to his impressive resume early on this season. He joined the the all time top 10 scoring list and became the youngest player ever to reach 27,000 points at 31 years of age. LeBron without a doubt has to be considered one of the most consistent and healthy players of all time as he's never missed significant time for injury and has always performed well. We are all witnesses.
